After the long drive when you reach Auli and are greeted by the magnificent view of the Himalayan peaks, you forget all your exhaustion. You can experience a feeling of being one with God. Just gazing at the ever-changing hues of the surrounding mountains will help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. There are no shops available there so you need to make sure you have emergency supplies before getting there.
There are a few resorts which offer all kinds of facilities to their guests. Joshimath is the closest available market where you can buy daily need items and basic medicines. There are some restaurants which offer mostly Indian food. The place is connected through a ropeway as well as by a small motorable road to Joshimath. The ropeway is 4 km long and it is India’s longest ropeway. While travelling on this ropeway you can get stunning views of Nanda Devi.
Auli Skiing
Auli is famous for winter sports. People come here to enjoy skiing every year in the month of Jan, Feb and March. GMVN also organizes basic skiing courses during this time. Skiing competitions are also held and many participants come to take part in them. There is a huge man-made lake which helps in producing artificial snow.
Best Time to Visit
Best time to visit Auli is during summers. The place is extremely cold in winters accompanied by snowfall but it is pleasant during summers. When the snow melts in summers, it turns into a beautiful green bugyal or meadow. If you want to enjoy skiing in Auli, then the best time to visit is from January to March.
Things to Do in Auli
One can trek up to Kuari pass which is approximately 21 km from here. Or you can go up to Gorson top which is an 8 km trek from here. This trek takes you through beautiful oak forests and bugyals. You can see Hathi Ghoda peak, Neelkhant peak, Nanda Ghunti and Nanda Devi from here. Nanda Devi is the second highest peak in India at an altitude of 25,643 feet. The Nanda Devi National Park lies around the peaks of this mountain and is adjacent to the Valley of Flowers.
