Tamil Nadu situated by the Bay of Bengal in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu is known for its natural beauty especially its azure beaches and clear skies. Some of southern India's loveliest beaches dominate Chennai's long coastal line. The Marina beach, the second longest beach in the world is fine strip of sandy foreshore and is known as the 'Pride of Chennai, the Covelong beach is quiet and far away from the distractions of the city and the Elliot's beach is the favourite destination for those with a clean and peaceful atmosphere in mind. A short 20-minute drive from Chennai City, VGP Golden Beach Resort offers a tranquil and comfortable atmosphere in today's stressful world. 60-km south of Chennai is the Mahabalipuram beach, famous for its unique 7th century Shore Temple and stone sculptures.

The Beaches of Tamil Nadu

Marina Beach : Located on the eastern side of Chennai, adjoining the Bay of Bengal is the most loveliest beach of India - Marina Beach. Watching the sun set and rise from the beach is an enthralling experience. Though bathing and swimming can be dangerous, as the undercurrent is very strong, the beach is visited by several visitors for its natural beauty. In the evenings, the beach is virtually a fair ground with various kinds of entertainment and food stalls lining the beach.

Kaniyakumari Beach : KaniyaKumari or Cape Comorin, the multi- hued sand beach is the end tip of India's land. Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea surround it. It is also called 'Thriveni Sangamam'. A breath-taking view of the Sun Shine and Sun Set can be viewed from here, a mesmerizing feature of the Beach here. It is also famous for Gandhi Mandapam and Kanyakumari Amman temple. Amidst the sea of Kanyakumari, a small hillock houses the memorial of Swami Vivekananda.

Mahabalipuram Beach : Mahabalipuram, also known, as "Mamallapuram" is 60-km, south of Chennai, nestling on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, was once a port of the Pallavas. The Pallavas have created many marvellous monuments with Sculptural Panels, Caves, Monolithic Rathas (chariots) and Temples.


Rameswaram Beach : It is an island situated off the mainland surrounded by Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar. Rameswaram is a pilgrim center. According to the epic Ramayana, Lord Sri Rama worshipped Lord Siva here before invading Lanka to redeem his wife Sita from the clutches of Ravana. It is believed that Lord Sri Rama constructed the mythological bridge to Sri Lanka.

Covelong Beach : Located at a distance of 40 km from Chennai Covelong is a magical place to refresh you. It is a quiet peaceful village away from the Hustle Bustle of Chennai. A best weekend getaway from the busy city life, Covelong is famous for its fishing activities. The salubrious village of Covelong is renowned for its fishing activities.
