Fairy Queen - 1855 The Year when the majestic Fairy Queen rolled out for the East Indian Railway. Similar class of locomotive hauled the first passenger train which steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hooghly a distance of 24 Kms. on the 15th. Aug. 1854. An identical locomotive was also used to transport troops to Raniganj during the famous 1857 War of Independence. This locomotive is still capable of roaring back to life. The engine, is the oldest working engine in the world. It was built in the year 1855 by the British firm of Kitson, Thompson & Hewistson for the East Indian Railway. Now, the Fairy Queen steams again, once a month from Oct. 2001 to Feb. 2002. Taking 50 discerning passengers, from around the world, an unforgettable trips to Alwar. From there a short drive will take them to tiger country and an overnight stay at a legendary Palace.
